Papago! GoSafe 110 Motion detection samples (Parked tractor trailer)

I've been leaving the cam on in the truck overnight, while parked and in 'motion detector' mode.
The Papgo! GS110 easily triggers when another truck moves within the field of vision and by pedestrians.
The GS 110 appears to continue recording for about one minute after it is triggered by motion, meaning there is a moving object in the frame for ten seconds, the resulting file is around 1:10 minutes long.

Motion dection mode on a dashcam may be a solution for long term, unattended parking coverage. Most truckers do leave the truck parked, and unattended for a day or more. Vandalism, break ins, or damage from other vehicles is not unheard of. A cam file from a dashcam in this mode may give some clues to who was responsible, as long as they moved within the field of view of the camera.

Accessing the Papago! GoSafe 110 settings menu

The manual included in the Papago!  GoSafe 110 is mostly in Chinese, and can be a bit hard to figure out.
Accessing the menu is pretty simple, push the third button from the left, and scroll through the selections, using the 'Up' (Second from left), and 'Down' (Third from left).
Use the 'OK' (4th from left) button to select a menu  item, and confirm any changes.

The first button from the left is used during menu selection to go back to the previous page of options, and during normal operation to 'Save' a file.

Papago! GoSafe 110 Daytime Video sample

The Papago GoSafe 110, is a small Dashcam which produces decent video.   I received one for review from GearBest.com, and will be using it, and posting about it, during the next few weeks.

The GoSafe 110 has a capacitor, not a battery. This is safer for long life usability in a vehicle. You get less problems from heat, generated by the sun, or in a closed, parked vehicle. Most of the batteries in Dash Cams fail or weaken after a year or two, and many will self destruct and distort in heat, damaging the camera, or more. A capacitor is the way to go.

Gate City, VA US 23 Why go right, when you can go straight?

Video from two Mobius dashcams, mounted in a tractor trailer.

Do I need a dashcam with 'night vision'?

The dash cams that offer LED illumination and claim 'Night vision' usually don't work well.   If they do offer some illumination, it's only for a few feet in front of the camera, and you will have problems with reflections from your windshield.    You are better off turning off these leds, and just finding a camera with adequate capabilities at night with available lighting.   (Street lights, your headlights, etc.)
Night video quality varies widely.    Make sure you look for samples of 'night'video online before you purchase a dashcam, but understand that lighting conditions vary drastically, and you are not likely to see license plate numbers unless the vehicle is directly in front of you, and somewhat close.
'Night video' is still useful in accident situations.

Mobius Wide angle lens dash cam Mounted in right passenger window

I mounted a spare, Mobius cam on the top of the passenger side window, just to see how much coverage I could get.    I wanted the right side mirror in the frame, which allows us to see lane position, and cars close along the right side.
The mobius is pretty small, and discrete, but mounting it the way I did with a suction cup mount is not optimal 'stealth' mode.
I think I'd get adequate coverage with the Mobius mounted a few inches inboard of the window, using an adhesive mount, on the underside of the overhead console.   The camera would be a lot less obvious, also.
One downside, there are two LEDs that flash on the Mobius when it's recording.  They're fairly small, but noticeable in the dark.  You can turn them off with the software program.   The downside to turning them off?    You can't really tell the camera is functioning normally, and recording.
I use the Mobius cams 'upside' down, which seems to work better with the available mounts, and the more upright windshields we have in trucks.
If you view the mobius at a slight angle, the rear LED is a bit hard to see in daylight, at the distances we deal with when one is mounted in a large truck.
With the Mobius mounted at the top of the passenger window, and also angled down somewhat, it was difficult to see the flashing led in daylight.  (No problem at night.)
Moving the Mobius a few inches  closer, (using an adhesive mount on the overhead) will make it a little easier to see.

You're still better off using a forward facing cam if you only have  one camera.   'Side' cameras will expand what you can document.

Not my video, but this is the sort of thing truckers see pretty often.   Drivers like this need to be WALKING, not behind the wheel.

Mobius Wide angle lens video samples (tractor trailer)

The Mobius is a small, reliable, and inexpensive 'action' cam that will also function well as a dashcam.

Mobius lens comparison Wide vs standard, ( tractor trailer dash cams)

This is a 'non technical' example of the different field of views from the Wide Angle, and standard lens Mobius dash cameras.      The cameras are mounted about a foot apart, with each being about  6 inches off from the center of the windshield.
